Charente-Maritime: go on an adventurous camping holiday right next door to Fort Boyard!

The second-most visited tourist destination in France and the premier destination on the Atlantic coastline, Charente-Maritime offers campers a significant architectural and environmental heritage. This incredible region never fails to attract campers, who flock to the luxury mobile homes and bungalows at our 3 to 5-star campsites on the Charentais coast. Campers eager for fun and games will enjoy the Château des Enigmes, where they can go on an exciting treasure hunt with family and friends in a fabulous setting dating from the Italian Renaissance. Thrill seekers should pay a visit to Fort Boyard, made famous by the eponymous game. Just a few miles away from Oléron Island, it remains one of the greatest gems of Charente-Maritime.

But that’s not all! The ideal location of our campsite allows our guests an incredible family day out at thegrand aquarium in La Rochelle, or a day enjoying the multiple attractions at the Ileo Aquatic Centre. Campers who prefer land-based activities should head to the huge Zoo de La Palmyre, or step through the doors of the imposing Abbaye aux Dames abbey, a real architectural gem.

As for local cuisine, Charente-Maritime specialises in delicious seafood, given its location near the ocean; campers will be unable to resist! But the region is also famous for its cognac and its pineau – to be enjoyed in moderation – along with its salt and its potatoes from the Ile de Ré.

Guests on our Charentais campsites can enjoy many seaside activities: the summers here are invigorating, with temperatures of around 20°C, and it rarely rains!
