Tourist guide

Sun, Mediterranean and Pyrenees: Set sail for Roussillon!

Between the Mediterranean and the mountains, the Catalan coastline offers you its magnificent fine sandy beaches, magical coves, charming little ports, gastronomy and renowned vineyards - Banyuls, Collioure... In terms of nature, you can discover the majestic Albères Massif as well as the rare animal and plant species present in the many coastal nature reserves (such as the incredible ‘underwater trail’ of the Cerbère-Banyuls Marine Reserve).

Blue Flag: The beaches and port of Argelès sur Mer have been awarded the Blue Flag 2012 label. Created in 1985 and awarded in 46 countries, the Blue Flag label is awarded to municipalities, marinas or beaches that make decisive efforts in environmental matters, particularly with regard to awareness-raising policy, prevention of territory and waste and water management.

Culture and heritage

The beach at Argelès-sur-Mer:

The 7 km of fine golden sand that border the resort offer freedom and space, so that everyone can enjoy the sun as they please. Not forgetting the ‘Racou’ (corner in Catalan), a little corner of paradise at the edge of the beach and at the foot of the Albères. The village, with its Catalan accent, its church with a crenellated tower (14th century), its maze of narrow streets, its ramparts, its markets, its crafts, its festivals... A town mentioned as early as the 9th century, a stronghold linked to the kings of Aragon and Majorca in the 13th and 14th centuries, a village that became French in 1659.

And to enrich your stay, visit the surrounding markets:

  • In Saint-Cyprien: local market and night market.
  • In Argelès-sur-Mer: traditional market to discover.
