Camping in the South of France

There is no shortage of major cities in the South of France, each with its own unique appeal and something for every taste. In Marseille, the Old Port, the MuCEM (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations), the historic Le Panier district, and the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde are sure to charm you. If seaside towns appeal, you can also explore Toulon and visit the Naval Museum (Musée National de la Marine) after strolling around the port filled with naval vessels. Follow the coast to Nice: from the colourful narrow lanes of Old Nice to the Promenade des Anglais and the Cours Saleya flower market, the capital of the French Riviera holds many treasures. In the South-West, Toulouse—known as the "Pink City"—invites you to wander along the banks of the Garonne. On the Atlantic coast, Bordeaux offers museums and cultural sites such as the Cité du Vin, Pey-Berland Cathedral, and the famous water mirror. Further south, Biarritz, the capital of the French Basque Country, blends seaside pleasures with elegant architecture. The history of the South of France is shaped by centuries of landmark events that have left a wealth of historical remains to explore. The Pont du Gard, the medieval city of Carcassonne, the Palace of the Popes in Avignon, Old Nice, and its Riviera... Numerous historical sites are UNESCO World Heritage listed.

Fascinated by the medieval period? Visit the Cathar castles, testaments to a tumultuous, warlike past.
